Meet the developer

Hi, I’m James

I run WildPress from Battersea, London. I build and manage each project myself, and for larger projects I bring in a team of experienced freelancers to help with the more specialist work.

Most of my clients are small business owners who need their website to do real work: take enquiries, sell, publish, or connect to the systems behind the business. That shapes how I build. Less chasing design awards, more making sure the site is fast, secure, and still doing its job years after launch.

You deal with me from the first call through to launch, and most clients stay on afterwards. Some of the sites I look after today I built years ago.

What is included

What gets covered in technical consulting

Technical consulting gives hands-on business owners senior technical judgement without hiring full time. The work covers context review, tradeoff analysis, recommendations, delivery planning, vendor coordination, and quality oversight.

Decision support

Clear technical options in plain English

We translate technical choices into practical business tradeoffs: what each route costs, what it risks, what it unlocks, and what it means for the people who will use or maintain it.

Stack decisions Cost and risk review Plain-English recommendations

Architecture

Shape the technical foundation before build work starts

Consulting can cover platform choice, CMS model, hosting, integrations, data flow, security, performance, analytics, deployment, and how the setup should evolve over time.

Platform and CMS choice Hosting and deployment Data and integrations

Scope

Turn unclear ideas into buildable work

If a project is hard to scope, we can help define requirements, risks, phases, dependencies, acceptance criteria, and what should be delivered first.

Requirements shaping Phased delivery Acceptance criteria

Delivery oversight

Keep implementation aligned with the goal

For projects already underway, support can include milestone reviews, technical QA, agency coordination, vendor questions, prioritisation, and risk management.

Milestone reviews Technical QA Vendor coordination

Team support

Work alongside internal teams or external partners

Consulting can slot into an existing team without replacing it. The aim is to improve decision quality and delivery confidence where senior technical judgement is missing.

Internal team support Agency collaboration Stakeholder guidance

Flexible format

One-off workshops or ongoing advisory support

Some businesses need a single decision session. Others need recurring guidance through planning, build, launch, and improvement cycles. The format can match the level of risk and complexity.

Process

01

Context Review

We review the business goal, current stack, constraints, stakeholders, delivery risks, and decisions that need senior technical input.

02

Options and Tradeoffs

We compare realistic routes across cost, complexity, maintainability, delivery speed, ownership, and the capability of the team that will run the system.

03

Recommendation

You receive a practical recommendation, decision notes, scope guidance, or implementation plan that can be used by your team, agency, or delivery partner.

04

Delivery Support

Where useful, consulting can continue through milestone reviews, quality checks, vendor coordination, technical troubleshooting, and prioritisation support.
