Client Overview
- Client Name: NG Feathers Interiors

NG Feathers is an award-winning interior architecture and design studio in London, creating bespoke residential and commercial interiors under the ethos “design for living well”. The studio is SBID accredited, won at the 2023 SBID Design Awards, and is regularly featured in the design press. A website for a studio like this has to look as considered as the interiors it presents.
Challenge
NG Feathers are interior designers, and the site had to live up to that. The team was exacting about the aesthetics, and getting a design they were happy with had been a long road. By their own account, they had spent around four years searching for a design that truly met the quality they expected.
So the first job was the design itself. We partnered with a designer who captured the studio’s vision in Figma, translating what they had in their heads into something that finally matched their standard. From there it was down to the build, and that had to be exact: the same restraint, the same typography, the same detail of line height and letter-spacing, carried faithfully onto the web.
Precision across devices was the hard part. Matching a design this considered means getting it pixel-perfect and consistent everywhere, including the cross-browser rendering differences that trip most sites up, in particular fonts displaying slightly differently in Safari.
The site also had to be genuinely manageable. NG Feathers publishes projects, curates products for its Shoppe, and keeps a Press section current, so it needed structured content types and a flexible way to build pages, not a rigid template the team would outgrow. Off-the-shelf themes and page builders could not deliver that restrained, exact design without becoming heavy and awkward to maintain.
Project Goals
- Match the design team’s work exactly: pixel-perfect and consistent across every browser and device.
- Build a bespoke WordPress theme that reflects the studio’s refined, minimal aesthetic.
- Give the team a flexible set of editor blocks to compose pages without a developer.
- Model the studio’s content properly: Projects, Shoppe products, and Press.
- Add tasteful motion that supports the design rather than distracting from it.
- Keep an image-heavy site fast.
Process and Development
- Design partnership: Worked with a designer who captured the studio’s vision in Figma, giving us a precise, high-quality design to build against.
- Custom theme foundation: Built the site on Roots Sage, using Laravel Blade templating, Tailwind CSS, and Vite for a clean, component-based codebase.
- Bespoke block library: Created a custom set of Gutenberg blocks (hero, galleries, sliders, flip cards, content boxes, logos, and more) so the studio can lay out editorial pages exactly how it wants them.
- Structured content: Registered custom post types for Projects, Shoppe products, and Press articles, backed by Advanced Custom Fields and typed data objects so each content type stays reliable and easy to edit.
- Considered motion: Added GSAP scroll animations for the full-screen hero and section reveals, tuned to feel understated.
- Typography and detail: Set the site in Adobe Garamond Pro with careful line height and letter-spacing, working through the small typographic details the design called for.
- Cross-device precision: Spent real time getting the build pixel-perfect against the designs and resolving the cross-browser rendering differences that trip most sites up, including fonts displaying differently in Safari, so the experience was consistent across browsers and devices.
- Performance: Wrote a small custom plugin to serve WebP images, keeping an image-led design quick to load.
Solutions Delivered
- A bespoke, maintainable WordPress theme built on a modern Blade and Tailwind stack.
- A reusable block library that puts page composition in the studio’s hands.
- Properly modelled Projects, Shoppe, and Press content, including a “load more” articles feed.
- Refined typography and subtle scroll animation that reflect the studio’s design standards.
- WebP image delivery for a fast, image-rich site, deployed to managed hosting through an automated pipeline.
Results
- After around four years of searching for the right design, the studio now has it built faithfully, holding up consistently across browsers and devices, including the Safari font rendering that trips most sites up.
- NG Feathers has a website that reads as carefully as its interiors, with the editorial polish the brand needs.
- The studio can publish projects, add Shoppe products, and update Press without developer involvement.
- The custom block library keeps new pages consistent with the design system rather than drifting.
- Performance work keeps the image-heavy site responsive.
Conclusion
The NG Feathers site is a bespoke WordPress build for a design-led studio that could not settle for a template. Combining a custom Sage theme, a purpose-built block library, structured content types, and restrained motion, the site gives the team full editorial control while holding a consistently refined standard, and stays fast despite being rich with imagery.
